Under 100 Days to stop UKIP

With less than days to go before the European Elections, the Liberal Democrats are the only party campaigning to keep Britain IN Europe.

Today, Nick Clegg has warned that if UKIP wins and takes us out of Europe, it would wreck the recovery and risk 3 million British jobs.

The Conservatives are flirting with exit from Europe and the Labour party cannot pluck up the courage to speak up. Only the Liberal Democrats are fighting to keep Britain IN Europe.

We're IN for the sake of 3 million jobs. We're IN so that we can work with our neighbours to tackle cross-border crime and fight climate change. We're IN because we know that Britain can only stand tall in the world if we stand tall in our own back yard.

Tell us why you are IN.

The more people who shout about why they think Britain is better off IN Europe, the more chance we have of stopping UKIP.

Why are you IN?

2,951 reasons

I think Britain is better off IN Europe because...

I was born in France and am here because my father, a Canadian (and therefore British subject in 1940) got us away from Hitler in the nick of time on the last boat out – how could I be anything but European? But the floods in Somerset and the chronic shortage of housing happen because there are too many of us. We should help Germany celebrate the encouraging fall in their birth rate and work, Europe-wide, to stabilise and then reduce our pressure on crop land and energy resources. There’ll be a transition of 25 to 30 years, but after that our kids and their kids will have a better life. If you go public with this message I will donate a good sum to the Lib-Dems. – as I’ve promised before.

I vote in because Britain is stronger as a part of Europe. We Brits have the opportunity to work anywhere within the EU just as those in member states have the opportunity to work here. Good things have come out of being in the EU such as the ban on smoking in public places.

We need to get the FACTS across to the electorate. Have tried to find stats on the web, and it seems the financial benefits of being IN are that we receive somewhere in the region of 15-45 times as much as we contribute in trade etc. There would be no guarantee that manufacturing companies for example (like Nissan and Honda) would continue their operations here if we were not part of the EU.

I’m in because the world must be freed from the “curse of nations” which is afflicting Africa at present, and must not be allowed to afflict Europe again. Nationalism has fostered conflict, polarised wealth and divided people. I’m also in because we have a responsibility to help those less advantaged than ourselves, not just in the currently defined nation in which we live, but in other countries in the EU less fortunate than us.

I am in Europe because it gives freedom of movement for all citizens. It supports our human rights, which was important during the Thatcher years. It is vital for our economy.

I am IN because currently 100% of my income from my educational services business comes from Europe, often from schools owned or diected by British professionals living locally. And also because 75% of the income, 75% of the students and 50% of the tutors for my wife’s language and music summer schools business come from EU countries. The courses operate in UK and other EU countries, everything runs seamlessly, and people of all ages form many different EU countries work and relax in complete harmony.

The USA is a friend only when we do as they say. We have only just finished paying them for the equipment provided to us in WW2: they propped up West Germany generously.

We are a relatively poor country surviving on usury with little manufacturing left.

We have to be in a ‘group’ to have any influence on matters which concern our wellbeing and defence. We are already integrated within the EU and divorce would be messy and costly. For trade, even countries outside the EU, eg. Norway, have to abide by the EU rules and make some payments.

The EC does need considerable improvement in efficiency (Brussels & Strasbourg sites???) and a hard look at matters on which it can take a view and/or directives it can propose.

I have worked as consultant to the EC concerning assessment of scientific projects vying for EU R & D funding and am committed to encouraging a strong and influential Europe. I have also lived and worked in Germany.

This is one of the best political broadcasts for the Lib Dem that I have seen. What would happen to the millions of UK citizens working in Europe? I would think their jobs would be in jeopardy.

I’m in because it is madness to want to isolate ourselves. Ok, there are disagreements as in any family but it’s better to work through from them solidarity than separation. I also believe Scotland is better off as part of uk. The SNP are trying to sell a fantasy.

I see no other option but to remain in Europe and protect worker rights by retaining the social chapter provisions. if we withdraw , the social chapter will be the first thing to be revoked with unions weakened further for negotiating pensions and fair wages. I also believe that the lib dems will not represent the workers in terms of securing their rights to a fair wage or have the courage to stand alone thereby creating a stronger position needed by unions and UK citizens. They will support the trade needs purely in terms of facilitating profit margins for those who invest in the UK after benefiting from the taxpayers providing incentive for this investment via enterprise zones. They will allow unfair loopholes for these companies to avoid paying a fair share of tax and continue with the public cuts. so European citizens need to be united in creating power to change this situation .Finally the UK citizens may derive benefit from being part of this and will surely not be in a strong position if the UK withdraws from Europe.

I’m IN Europe as it adds strength to our community as well as our economy. That’s why I believe we are better together in the same way that Scotland is better as an integral part of the UK. In other words its common sense to be in a common market.

We have access to the largest single market in the developed world. Competition within this market has the potential to create technological and scientific breakthroughs that can shape the future. Simply put the economy, stupid.
